Philadelphia officials unclear on how long vote counting will take: 'At least until this time tomorrow'

A reputed wiseguy nicknamed “Tony Meatballs” is among more than a dirty dozen alleged South Philly mobsters charged in a sweeping federal indictment unsealed Monday. The suspects are accused of everything from illegal sports betting to heroin-peddling to offering loans at 400 percent interest — not to mention plotting to kidnap and possibly murder a drug dealer to save their reputations after the guy sold them fake narcotics.

While the famous film star has not acknowledged the contribution, the donation was made in his name to a GoFundMe page set up by Aiden. Aiden, who has cerebral palsy and no use of his left hand side and very limited use of his right side, had been quoted £6,000 for a mechanically adapted bath and hoist to help him get in and out of the bath.

The Trump campaign is appealing after the Philadelphia County Board of Elections denied its objection to the counting of thousands of ballots that the campaign said should have been rejected under state law. In five separate court filings, the campaign claimed that officials improperly counted ballots that were missing information they state was required after officials conducted a secondary review.

The Trump campaign has filed a lawsuit against Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Wayne County officials in which they allege that credentialed election challengers were blocked from having sufficient view of the vote-counting process, challenges against certain ballots were ignored, and as a result, ineligible ballots were tallied.

A federal judge reportedly dismissed an emergency injunction Thursday evening brought by the Trump campaign afternoon to stop the counting of votes in Philadelphia that \claimed election workers ignored an earlier court ruling over election observers.

Allegheny County, Pa., officials on Wednesday clarified that officials were not "taking today off" counting mail-in ballots as voters await election results from the battleground state. New York Times journalist Trip Gabriel on Wednesday tweeted that the county "elections staff is taking today off for 'administrative work' and will not resume count until Friday," citing a quote from Allegheny County councilmember Bethany Hallam and an email from the county.

Georgia's top election official said he expects the state to finish counting remaining ballots in the race between President Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden by midday Thursday.  Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a Republican, told WSB Radio in Atlanta that officials were still tallying about 50,000 ballots, most of which are in Fulton County, which includes most of Atlanta, and Chatham County, where Savannah is located.

A Pennsylvania appellate court handed the Trump campaign a victory Thursday by allowing it to have its representative as close as six feet away from the vote-counting process that is underway at the Convention Center in Philadelphia. A campaign witness had testified that the ballot processing area was kept at a distance from poll watchers, with the closest table roughly 15 feet away from him and the farthest approximately 105 feet from where he was permitted to observe.
