Emmerdale and The Royle Family star Peter Martin has passed away at the age of 82.The late actor played Joe Carroll on The Royle Family for 14 years, and appeared in Emmerdale as Len Reynolds from 2001 until 2007.The tragic news of his passing was confirmed by a friend of the actor's, who shared a tribute to him on Facebook.The friend shared a photo of the actor, which they captioned: "My friend, drinking partner, fishing buddy passed away on Wednesday morning, very sad, many of you will know him from TV, RIP Peter Martin, we had some great laughs." Peter had a rather eclectic acting career, making a name for himself in both the small screen and stage. He also appeared in a number of films.
His acting credits included Coronation Street, All Creatures Great And Small, and DinnerLadies. A Comediac actor, he also had appearances in number of Victoria Wood's shows, and much-loved Chucklevision TV series, which starred the iconic Chuckle Brothers.
His most recent role was in the comedy film Walk Like a Panther, which was released in 2018, and saw him star alongside Stephen Graham and Julian Sands. Alongside his TV and stage acting, Peter also became recognisable for his roles in the 1980s TV adverts for Jewsons Hardware.
The adverts saw Peter first play a confused customer, and another of the long-running adverts saw him tap-dance along some newly placed wood.The adverts, which proved popular with viewers, made a return in 2011 when Peter met with Jewsons staff at an anniversary celebration. At the time he said: "It's been a very nostalgic day today and a lot of water has passed under the bridge since we first started in 1982.
