Pete Wicks has opened up about his testicular cancer scare, revealing he ignored a lump for around three months before finally going to get it checked out by a doctor. The former The Only Way Is Essex favourite, 35, is one of the famous faces taking part in ITV's The Real Full Monty: Jingle Balls this festive season.
The annual show, which begins airing on Monday, 11 December, aims to raise awareness of cancer and the importance of checking for signs of the disease.
Pete has now spoken out about his own cancer scare, with the TV star admitting he found a lump back in January but proceeded to ignore it, blaming his "ego" for preventing him from seeking medical advice. The Celebs Go Dating star, whose uncle suffered testicular cancer, said he became "self-conscious" of the lump and eventually decided to go to the doctors to get it checked.
Pete told The Mirror: "It was affecting parts of my life, I was seeing someone and became self-conscious, but once I got through that stage it was, 'Woah, if it is cancer, what would that do to my mum?', so I plucked up the courage to stop being a big wimp about it." He was left panicking after receiving inconclusive test results followed by a three-week wait to find out if the lump was cancerous or not. "I was fearful, when you find a lump, especially down there, you think 'Oh s**t'.
You don't want anything to be wrong with your wedding tackle. I kept it to myself and didn't even tell Mum, blokes always want to be OK and never a burden - it's ego pride and not a good thing to do," Pete admitted.
Thankfully, Pete was told his lump was not cancerous and he was able to have it drained, leaving him feeling "blessed". The TOWIE star will star in The Real Full Monty: Jingle Balls alongside
