Warning: Oppenheimer spoilers ahead. Let me begin by saying that I worship at the altar of Christopher Nolan. From The Prestige to The Dark Knight, Inception to Dunkirk, I can never resist his particular brand of steely, high-concept blockbusters – their knotty plots, epic cinematography, thundering scores, sleek interiors, and mysterious and tortured protagonists.
Next ‘Godzilla x Kong’ Movie Gets Title The title of the sequel to the 2021 monster battle, “Godzilla Vs. Adam Wingard returns to direct. “Godzilla vs. Kong” grossed $470 million worldwide, a healthy sum when many moviegoers were still hesitant to return to theaters in the midst of the pandemic. It was released simultaneously on HBO Max, causing controversy when Legendary was not on board with the early streaming release.
It may feel like a lifetime ago, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, but “Godzilla Vs. Kong” was one of 2021’s highest-grossing films.
“Godzilla vs. Kong” series, that initially started with the 2021 feature of the same name directed by Adam Wingard (“The Guest”). We don’t get much in 35-seconds but we do get a shot of King Kong himself on his throne, surrounded by the bones of, no doubt, a legion of enemies.

Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent Woody Allen’s “Coup de Chance,” the controversial filmmaker’s 50th movie, has found a French distributor. Metropolitan FilmExport, one of country’s biggest independent distributors, has come on board to release the movie in France. The release date has not yet been set, but sources close to the film say it could world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Metropolitan FilmExport has never handled a movie directed by Allen before as it typically focuses on commercial U.S. movies such as the “Hunger Games” franchise and “Evil Dead Rises.” While Allen’s movies have also always been widely popular in France, his previous film “Rifkin’s Festival” sold under 100,000 tickets for Apollo Films after world premiering at the San Sebastian Festival. It was the director’s worst B.O. performance in France. Budgeted in the $20-million range, “Coup de Chance” was a pricey acquisition that not many French distributors could afford to gamble on.
André Holland (Passing) and Gemma Chan (Don’t Worry Darling) will top Neon‘s The Actor, the second feature (and first in live-action) from Oscar-nominated Anomalisa helmer Duke Johnson, which has wrapped production. Hello and welcome to a special Wednesday episode of the Scene 2 Seen podcast. I am your host Valerie Complex, assistant editor and film writer at Deadline.
Eddie Redmayne doesn't think he has made "many" films that are "great". The 40-year-old actor - whose extensive career has seen him recognised with an Academy Award, a Tony Award, a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA , and two Laurence Olivier Awards - insisted he hasn't done that well in his work and even as a student at Cambridge alongside the likes of Rebecca Hall, Dan Stevens and Tom Hiddleston, he always found his own performances lacking. He told The Times' Saturday Review: “The aspiration is always to make a great film and I don’t think I’ve made many of those.

Robinson, an entertainment attorney, financier and producer, will be responsible for bringing new partners to HiddenLight’s slate of productions across film and television. Robinson’s appointment represents a number of developments in HiddenLight’s strategy, including the use of grant and equity funding to develop and produce projects that the company takes to market later in the production cycle. It also signals a desire to tell a wider spectrum of stories from a diversity of voices.

A TikTok user has revealed that shopping for groceries at Marks and Spencer could work out cheaper than shopping at budget stores such as Asda and Aldi. Rebecca Hall, who goes by the username life_with_bex, headed to M&S to check out prices of standard food items such as bread and beans, after she'd seen many people saying that the retailer is not actually as expensive as many have been led to believe.
Brent Lang Executive Editor The independent film world remains male-dominated, but female filmmakers made modest improvements behind-the-scenes, at least on the movies that got screened and streamed at festivals in recent months. That’s the conclusion of a new report by the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film at San Diego State University, which found that between 2021 to 2022, women comprised 39% of directors, writers, producers, executive producers, editors, and cinematographers working on independent films at high-profile film festivals in the U.S. That was an infinitesimal 1% increase from the previous year. Many of these film festivals played host to prominent movies from female auteurs such as Sian Heder’s “CODA,” which debuted at Sundance before capturing the Oscar for best picture, Rebecca Hall’s “Passing,” another Sundance entry that sold to Netflix, and Jane Campion’s “The Power of the Dog,” which screened at the New York Film Festival before winning an Academy Award for best director. But despite their success, the number of female directors at these gatherings only increased by a percentage point to 40%.
Owen Gleiberman Chief Film Critic Like an ice-cream shop that offers you the choice of pistachio or strawberry and nothing else, the movies Tyler Perry has been churning out for 20 years come in just two flavors: comedy and soap opera. It’s worth noting, in this case, how the flavors blend. Most often, they’re stacked right next to each other, as when Perry’s great sass-mouth frump Madea suddenly plops into the middle of a dramatic scene. Yet there’s a way that the antic, ribald broadness of Perry’s comedy bends the drama into being more over-the-top. That’s why his movies are all of a piece even when they’re all over the place. They feed you pistachio and strawberry, and by the time that’s all melted together you’re tasting one flavor. Call it Tyler Perry with Nuts.
EXCLUSIVE: Bankside Films has boarded international sales for Steve Buscemi-directed Venice Film Festival drama The Listener, starring Tessa Thompson (Creed).
Manori Ravindran International Editor Tessa Thompson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt will headline the sci-fi thriller “Ash,” directed by Flying Lotus. Thompson plays a space station worker who wakes up on a distant planet to find her colleagues viciously killed, and then forced to work together with the man (Gordon-Levitt) sent to rescue her. But as their investigation into what happened sets in motion a terrifying chain of events, the rescuer begins to wonder how innocent she really is. Executive produced by Neill Blomkamp (“District 9”), “Ash” is based on an original screenplay written by Jonni Remmler. XYZ Films and GFC Films will produce, with Echo Lake also onboard as an executive producer. XYZ Films is financing and handling worldwide sales at next week’s Toronto International Film Festival.
Odds were against “Godzilla Vs. Kong” being a box office success back in March 2021 thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As of this writing, filmmaker Andrew Semans (“Nancy, Please,” 2012), the writer/director of IFC Films’ harrowing new movie “Resurrection,” has a child and is a newly-blessed proud father of a new baby. But when I spoke to him about a week ago, and when more importantly, he wrote “Resurrection”— a blistering and scorching new psychological horror/thriller—he definitely didn’t have kids.
Premiering earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, the visceral and supremely audacious psycho-drama, “Resurrection” starring Rebecca Hall, has been described as “unhinged,” “bat-shit crazy,” “totally out there,” and worse. Of course, these are all compliments for a searing psychological dramatic thriller that’s horrifying, and, yes, tips into the horror genre a little bit, but also just unpredictable in its madness.
You are probably not ready or prepared for the harrowing out of body experience of the riveting and unsettling psychological horror “Resurrection,” starring Rebecca Hall. One of the most unhinged and unsettling movies of the year so far, with very likely nothing toppling it, Hall is obviously one of our most acclaimed actresses, but the work she does in this film is stunning, jaw-dropping, emotionally searing and maybe her best ever.
