Gamechanger Films launched in 2013 as the first equity fund dedicated to financing feature films directed by women in order to address gender disparity in the film industry. In January 2020, veteran producer Effie Brown was named CEO of Gamechanger Films.
A longtime advocate and voice for diversity and inclusion within the film industry, Brown produces, develops and finances content by and about women, POC, LGBTQ+ and people with disabilities.
Prior to joining Gamechanger, Brown produced Real Women Have Curves, Dear White People and HBO’s Project Greenlight and executive produced Lee Daniels’ Fox series Star and Disney Channel’s Zombies.
Most recently, Effie’s Gamechanger Films co-financed Netflix’s Passing, directed by Rebecca Hall and starring Oscar nominee Ruth Negga & Tessa Thompson. Currently, Effie is showrunning A Fashion Tale, a four-part Disney+/VICE docuseries to be hosted by Gwen Stefani, which will explore how Disney media has influenced pop culture. Other projects include Stranger With A Camera, Oscar-winning producer Oorlagh George’s debut feature, and Amazon’s Run Sweetheart Run. Also in the pipeline is Pale Horse, Gabby Sidibe’s directorial debut, and Sorcerority, starring and co-produced by Taraji P. Henson & Gabrielle Union, and Haant, a horror feature rooted in Gullah-Geeche mysticism.
