EXCLUSIVE: One of the few Israeli delegates who attended last week’s Mipcom Cannes has said he made the trip because “we will not let them win.”

MipTV‘s 61st and final edition in Cannes saw a year-on drop of more than 40% in participation, organizers said on Tuesday. During the presser, organizers also outlined plans for MipLondon which will run alongside the London Screenings next February. This year’s MipTV welcomed 3,537 delegates from 84 countries, including 1,133 buyers, compared with 5,510 participants in 2023.

MIPTV is coming to an end – but the hard truth is that people did not travel here to Cannes in the numbers of yesteryear to say goodbye. Market organizers RX France said Tuesday that the final MIPTV has attracted 3,500 people including 1,100 buyers. For context, there were over 5,000 in town last year and the event regularly topped 10,000 delegates in the earlier 2000s. MIPCOM in October, by contrast, still hits those numbers and remains a focal point for the international TV industry.

EXCLUSIVE: It’s confirmed – or will be later today – the organizers of MIPTV are setting up a new event in London, Deadline can reveal. MIP London will be based in The Savoy hotel and an adjoining space, the IET London, in a seismic change to the international TV calendar. Historic programming market MIPTV has been situated in Cannes since the 1960s.

More than 11,000 participants from more than 100 countries had come to the event, which runs Oct. 16-19.

Dozens of delegates from the Israeli TV sector will not travel to Mipcom Cannes next week following the Hamas-led attack on the country’s civilians over the weekend.

China has been named the country of honor at next month’s MIPCOM Cannes TV entertainment market (Oct 16-19). More than 300 delegates and nearly 40 companies from the Middle Kingdom are expected at this year’s market, the country’s biggest presence at MIPCOM since 2019.

One thing is for sure, while making TV is not the easiest business, the 10,896 attendees RX reported to have attended were simply delighted to be back together in person (last year’s restriction-laden Mipcom was hybrid and attendance figures comparatively low) and the atmosphere was the buzziest for many years, especially when the coffee machines were locked away and the alcohol started flowing. Liza Foreman CANNES —  Taking place in the Grand Auditorium in Cannes, the crowd that arrived to cheerlead winners at Mipcom’s Cannes TV Diversify Awards, was compact but buoyant as winners took to the stage. Some of the TV industry’s only awards to celebrate diversity and inclusion, a record 190 submissions were received this year from 27 countries. Hosted by the international anchor and diversity advocate, Femi Oke, the Awards saw 10 winners announced on Wednesday night with many present to receive awards. Canada proved the biggest prize winners, accounting for three awards.

A total of 10,896 delegates attended this year, which is down from the peak year of 2019, when more than 13,500 delegates came to the Cannes event. MipJunior, which ran over the weekend, had 1,311 delegates this year. In 2019, there were 1,500. There were 3,100 buyers this year, compared with more than 4,700 in 2019. The largest numbers of buyers this year came from the U.S. (442), followed by the U.K. (301), France (251), Germany (242) and Spain (140). In 2019, it was U.S. (461), U.K. (450), France (423), Germany (359) and Russia (207).

James Bay has announced plans for a UK and Ireland tour and shared a video for his recent single ‘One Life’.The Hitchin singer-songwriter will hit the road in the autumn kicking off at Bournemouth O2 Academy on November 20.The jaunt will also call at Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester, Edinburgh, Dublin and Birmingham before wrapping up at London’s O2 Brixton Academy on December 2 and Bristol O2 Academy the following night (3).Pre-sale tickets will go on sale next Wednesday (May 25) from 9am until 8am on Friday (May 27). Reed Exhibition has confirmed that Mipcom will return in a super-sized format in October. Lucy Smith, the director of Mipcom and MipTV, said during a press conference held on Wednesday that the “majority of our major exhibitors at what was our last normal Mipcom in 2019 have already confirmed that they will not only be back, but in full force for 2022 – in the Palais and beyond.”The executive also pointed out Mipcom will expand on its industry showcase aimed at creators, showrunners and producers, which took place alongside MipTV and Canneseries.
