New details are emerging about Brad Pitt‘s F1 movie for Apple Studios and whether or not he will actually be competing in any races.

Ellise Shafer Brad Pitt is getting in the cockpit of a real Formula One race car for his upcoming film on the international racing league, according to director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. During a panel about the untitled film at the F1 Accelerate Summit in Miami, Kosinski and Bruckheimer shared production details of the Apple Studios movie, which stars Pitt and counts seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton among its producers. According to panel moderator Will Buxton, Kosinksi and Bruckheimer are “creating an 11th team filming on track and on event from Silverstone to the end of the year.” Silverstone is the track where the British Grand Prix takes place. This year, the event will be held on July 9.

The highest grossing movie of 2022 at the domestic B.O. in pure calendar days and second highest grossing worldwide, Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick ($718.3M U.S., $1.488 billion) has been named the best movie of last year by Rotten Tomatoes.

Well, the mostly predictable Oscar nominations arrived on Tuesday morning with no disasters or truly egregious missteps. Even the snubs were fairly routine: No female directors, though women won the directing award in the past two years; James Cameron and Joseph Kosinski, both with Best Picture nominees, were left out too.

The Oscar nominations revealed Tuesday did not include any female directors, extending a trend that across this season’s awards landscape. It means the modest streak of women winning the Directing Oscar will end at two, after back-to-back wins the past two years with Jane Campion (The Power of the Dog) in 2022 and Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) in 2021.

Disney’s third “Tron” movie has just found its chief programmer, as TheWrap has confirmed that “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” filmmaker Joachim Rønning has joined the project. The director has a longstanding history with the studio, having already helmed “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” and the upcoming “Young Woman and the Sea,” starring Daisy Ridley.

Tom Cruise has become notorious for performing his own stunts, and Top Gun: Maverick is no exception. In fact, the entire cast underwent intense training in order to perform many of the wild aerial stunts that audiences saw on screen when they flocked to theaters in May to see Cruise reprise his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell more than three decades after the first film hit the big screen.

Time will tell if James Cameron‘s “Avatar: The Way Of Water” overtakes “Maverick” on both fronts, but there’s one thing that film won’t do: it won’t be the National Board Of Review‘s Best Film of 2022.
