What was the initial nugget of an idea that inspired this movie?Well, John Morris, my writing and producing partner and I, we’ve always wanted to do a musical. There are more than the usual number of miracles to be observed with the latest version of A Christmas Carol to hit Broadway. The usual suspects are here, all the ghosts and spirits and flights over ye olde town and all the witnessing of things past, present and future. And there’s the miracle of one man – the great Jefferson Mays – breathing life into more than 50 characters and having us believe every single shift. And there’s the perhaps more – if only slightly more – quotidian miracle of a creative team – directors of lighting and sound and costumes and projections – at the tops of their games coming together to create gobsmacking theater magic, a blessing director Michael Arden’s Carol has in great bounty.

At this point it is almost impossible to count the number of remakes, ripoffs, variations, takeoffs and general thievery on the part of filmmakers riffing on Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol. The latest imitation, Spirited, isn’t even the only new version to debut this season; I can count at least two others still waiting for liftoff as the yuletide tidings continue in 2022. But this one has some real firepower in terms of who is involved with the Apple TV+ original film, chief among them stars Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell, who deliver a take most closely aligned with Bill Murray’s modern 1988 Scrooged, a homage even noted in the rat-a-tat snarky script here by John Morris and Sean Anders (Daddy’s Home), the latter who also directed.

So what makes the next iteration of this story unique from the rest? The answer is comedians Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds, who are co-starring in the musical “Spirited” — the latest adaptation of the canonical piece of literature. Reynolds will be playing Clint Briggs, a younger, funnier version of the old, crotchety Ebenezer Scrooge, while Ferrell will be portraying the ghost of Christmas Present. However, Clint turns the tables and reexamines the ghost’s past, present and future. For the first time, “A Christmas Carol” is told from the perspective of the ghosts in this hilarious musical twist on the classic Dickens tale.

The director, Lee Sol-hui previously saw her Korean Academy of Film Arts graduation short film “Anthill” play in the festival’s Wide Angle: Korean Short Form Competition. With Kim Seo-hyung (“The Villainess”) in the lead role, the film tracks the pain and suffering of a woman who suffers a psychological disorder. Also new on the company’s line up at the Asian Contents & Film Market is revenge-themed thriller “Christmas Carol,” adapted from a Korean best-selling novel of the same name. Directed by Kim Sung Soo, who also made “Save Me,” a 2010 cult series on Korean cable channel, OCN. The film has the ingredients for a fan following among K-Pop fans as it stars boyband, GOT7’s Park Jinyoung.

Apple TV+ has released a handful of new images from their upcoming holiday movie, Spirited!

Apple Original Films will premiere holiday musical comedy Spirited in theaters Nov. 11 and globally on Apple TV+ Nov. 18.

A new rooftop cinema is set to screen a host of Christmas classic movies from Elf to Muppet’s Christmas Carol in the run up to the festive period. The season of movies will kick off on November 16 at Backyard Cinema, the immersive cinema experience that is setting up shop on the roof of Depot Mayfield, its first residency outside London.

Jefferson Mays’ one-man A Christmas Carol is coming to Broadway this holiday season, with a 66-performance engagement previewing at the Nederlander Theatre on Tuesday, November 8 with an official opening night set for Monday, November 21. The production runs through Sunday, January 1, 2023.

One woman has a secret, the other a mission to reveal it before thousands of lives are lost.“We’re excited to continue our partnership with Steven Knight on ‘The Veil’ and thrilled to have Elisabeth Moss sign on for the lead role,” said Nick Grad, president of original programming at FX. “Steven’s scripts are riveting and no doubt will showcase Elisabeth’s exceptional talent.” Knight is writing and executive producing “The Veil,” with Moss executive producing under her Love & Squalor Pictures banner.
