Canadian filmmaker David Cronenberg (“Crimes of The Future“) has fathered some talented children; his son Brandon Cronenberg already making a name for himself with blood-soaked mature projects like “Possessor” and “Infinity Pool.” Now, his artist daughter Caitlin Cronenberg is also getting into the moviemaking business with her feature film debut, “Humane.” The film was just acquired by IFC Films and Shudder from XYZ Films with a plan to hit the big screen before becoming an exclusive on the streaming service.

Sources tell Variety that Andrew Garfield, Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth are in early talks to star in Netflix’s live-action “Frankenstein” movie, which del Toro will write and direct. Del Toro has been developing the project, based on English author Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, for several years, but it’s unclear how faithful he intends to interpret the source material. “Frankenstein” is part of the filmmaker’s multi-year deal with Netflix, where del Toro has a number of projects in various stages of development. Conversations about “Frankenstein” are in the very early stages, sources tell Variety.

We are just under two weeks away from the kickoff of the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. However, the folks at Sundance aren’t done announcing new additions to the festival lineup.

John Malkovich starrer Seneca – On the Creation of Earthquakes and Alex Gibney’s untitled Boris Becker documentary are set to have their world premieres at the upcoming Berlin International Film Festival next year. The projects are among the six titles which will play in the fest’s Berlinale Special Gala section, which also includes Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool, starring Alexander Skarsgård, Mia Goth and Cleopatra Coleman and Todd Field’s Tár.

The 2023 Sundance Film Festival is almost a month away and this morning the Sundance Institute revealed the Indie Episodic and Short Film slates for the festival. 64 shorts were selected from 10,981 submissions, the highest on record.

Another member of the Cronenberg family has a movie on the way. Deadline reports that Caitlin Cronenberg, daughter of David and sister of Brandon, just wrapped shooting on her feature directorial debut in Ontario, entitled “Humane.” And the film’s plot? Kind of in the family’s wheelhouse: a thriller about a wealthy family reckoning months after a global environmental collapse.
