Blonde has divided critics in early reviews, who have described it as both “miserabilist” and “fascinating”.Directed by Andrew Dominik and based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates, Blonde stars Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe and “blurs the lines of fact and fiction” in a reimagining of her life. ‘Blonde’ Review: Andrew Dominik’s Fictionalized Biopic Of Marilyn Monroe Is A Relentless, Brutal Statement On Celebrity

No film at the Venice Film Festival not called “Don’t Worry Darling” has attracted such morbid fascination as Andrew Dominik’s Marilyn Monroe not-a-biopic, “Blonde.” Turns out that “morbid” qualifier is soft, to say the least: to call “Blonde” relentless would be about as immense an understatement as one can conjure of a movie that subjects its lead, Ana de Armas’ fictionalized Monroe, to two hours and forty-seven minutes of unending sexual torture, leering voyeurism, and devastating dehumanization.  READ MORE: Venice Film Festival Preview: 16 Must-See Films To Watch Much has already been made about the X-ratedness of it all, but god, this is — by design — soul-sapping stuff, leaving you bloodied and brutalized.

Ana de Armas, Adrien Brody on Andrew Dominik’s Venice Title ‘Blonde’: ‘Marilyn Monroe Was Approving of What We Were Doing’

Naman Ramachandran The spirit of Marilyn Monroe was very much present during the making of Andrew Dominik’s “Blonde,” according to the film’s talent. Produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment, the film, which is in the main competition at the Venice Film Festival, is a fictionalized version of the life of the iconic actor and is based on the bestselling novel by Joyce Carol Oates. The film traces the volatile childhood of Norma Jeane Baker, through her rise to stardom as Marilyn Monroe and her romantic entanglements. It blurs the lines of fact and fiction to explore the widening split between her public and private selves. Ana de Armas (“No Time to Die”), who plays Norma Jeane/Marilyn, Adrien Brody (“The Pianist”), who plays her second husband, and Julianne Nicholson, who plays her mother, were present at a press conference for the film at Venice, alongside Dominik.

‘See How They Run’ Review: A Potentially Juicy Screwball Mystery, Run At Half Speed

When the first trailer for “See How They Run” appeared early this summer, a fair number of observers came to the same conclusion: Wes Anderson rip-off. It wasn’t hard to see; the ‘50s-set murder mystery seems to deliberately ape the Anderson aesthetic, from the meticulously detailed design work to the rich color palates to the striking and frequently symmetrical compositions, and it’s populated by a big, busy, impeccably attired ensemble cast that includes Anderson standby Adrien Brody and “Grand Budapest Hotel” co-star Saoirse Ronan.

Blonde received in the US.Directed by Andrew Dominik and based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates, Blonde is described as a story which reimagines the life of Marilyn Monroe and “blurs the lines of fact and fiction”.Earlier this year, the Motion Picture Association gave the film a restrictive NC-17 rating, which recommends that no one under the age of 18 should see the project.Speaking to L’officiel USA about the rating, de Armas, who plays Monroe, said: “I didn’t understand why that happened. I can tell you a number of shows or movies that are way more explicit with a lot more sexual content than Blonde.“But to tell this story it is important to show all these moments in Marilyn’s life that made her end up the way that she did.
