Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is reportedly open to the idea of handing club captain Fernandinho a role in his coaching staff from next season.
Fernandinho’s current contract is due to run out at the end of this season, and according to various reports, work has begun behind the scenes to draft up a new contract offer for the veteran midfielder.
Now 36, Fernandinho has found himself on the fringes of Guardiola’s squad, having only made 13 appearances in the Premier League so far this season.
According to Brazilian outlet Torcedores, Guardiola is keen to keep Fernandinho at the club as his experience and leadership qualities are a valued asset.
It seems the plan for Fernandinho is clear, a new deal will be offered to the Brazilian, with a view that he will take up a coaching role as well as be a first team player next season.
Fernandinho was signed by City in 2013, in a deal worth £30 million. Since his arrival, he has gone on to win four Premier League titles, the EFL Cup 6 times and both the FA Cup and Community Shield once.
During his time at City, Fernandinho established himself as one of the most reliable players for the club and one of the best players in his position in the league. His combativeness and knowledge of the game makes him stand out from the rest.
Only time will tell whether Fernandinho will stay at City, but all things are pointing towards yet another season at the Etihad Stadium for the legendary midfielder.
