More than one million people over State Pension age living in Scotland will be able to claim two new devolved benefits starting before the end of this year. People on devolved benefits and payments administered and delivered by Social Security Scotland will see payment rates rise from Monday. The latest figures from the Scottish Government indicate there are around 850,000 people living in Scotland with some form of hearing loss and of those, 70 per cent are over 70 - some 595,000. The latest statistics from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show that the number of people claiming Personal Independence Payment (PIP) at the end of October 2023 rose to an all-time high of nearly 3.5 million - and that figure does not include the 137,490 on Adult Disability Payment (ADP) in Scotland. Some 254,034 people on PIP living in Scotland will have their case transferred automatically to the devolved welfare system by the end of 2025.
