Pearl Jam drummer recalls receiving cease-and-desist letter from KISS as a teen

Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron has recalled receiving a cease-and-desist letter from KISS when he was a teenager.Speaking on the Howard Stern Show to promote Pearl Jam’s latest album ‘Dark Matter’, Cameron – who was also in Soundgarden – told the story about meeting KISS when he was young and how that resulted in him getting a cease-and-desist a few months later.Cameron revealed that he had been in a KISS cover band growing up: “We played local high schools, keggers, whatnot. And my dad was friends with the head of the stagehand union in San Diego, so when KISS was playing there… during the ‘Alive’ tour, that was ’75, we got to go see KISS do a soundcheck at the San Diego Sports Arena.”Cameron continued: “So I brought the two guys I was in the KISS band with, Tim and Dave Mahoney and we brought our photo album from our stupid KISS cover band to meet Paul Stanley, and we got a photo with him.

Owen Gleiberman Chief Film Critic Any photographer who shoots what’s happening in the gleaming, raw, people-packed carnival of New York City — the stores and walls and towers and alleyways, the celebrities, the endless cross-section of humanity — already has an artistic leg up. But the other leg is what he or she does with it. Weegee shot the violent night world of sin and crime.

Some Other Critics Didn't Love Taylor Swift's New Album Either -- Here's Why!

Over the past few days we’ve seen some of the ugliest side effects of fans’ devotion to Taylor Swift. Paste magazine literally kept its music critic’s name secret because they were afraid of the danger the poor person might be in for trashing her new album. They didn’t think The Tortured Poets Department was good, now they have to be protected like a juror from Trump’s scary followers? That’s awful.

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic There’s a certain type of vinyl geek that has all 387 exclusives coming out for Record Store Day 2024 committed to memory — color variants, pressing quantities and prices included. The rest of us may need a bit of guidance, which is where this look at 25 wallet-worthy releases comes in. Obviously, our list represents less than 10% of this year’s RSD population, but you can go to the full list — found here — after you get a start (or a reminder) with our rundown, which includes a mixture of the most obviously commercial titles and an assortment of cred or cult items.
