John Goodman on Roseanne Barr, ‘The Conners,’ ‘The Righteous Gemstones,’ and the Similarities Between U.S. and Foreign Shows: ‘Both Sides Have Mandatory F—ing Now’

Leo Barraclough International Features Editor “The Conners” and “The Righteous Gemstones” star John Goodman says he misses his “Roseanne” co-star Roseanne Barr, but he’s not sure he’d work with her again. Hit sitcom “Roseanne” was canceled by ABC in 2018 after a racially-charged tweet by Barr about Valerie Jarrett, an African-American woman who was a senior adviser to Barack Obama throughout his presidency. Barr later apologized. Later that year, Goodman told the Sunday Times: “I was surprised at the response. And that’s probably all I should say about that … I know for a fact that she’s not a racist.” He added that Barr was “going through hell.” Barr then thanked Goodman “for speaking truth about me.”

‘Ron Delsener Presents’ Is a Highly Entertaining, if Smoothed-Over, History of One of the Greatest Concert Promoters of All Time: Film Review

Jem Aswad Executive Editor, Music Unless you’ve got a “Succession”-sized story of ludicrous wealth combined with horrible behavior, it can be very challenging for a documentarian to make the life of an executive seem exciting — even one as colorful as that of Ron Delsener, one of the greatest concert promoters of all time… which is what makes “Ron Delsener Presents,” a documentary on that colorful life, all the more impressive. While the 90-odd-minute doc is a bit overlong and based largely on wealthy old music-biz veterans telling war stories from their rough-and-tumble years, director Jake Sumner uses deep research, fascinating concert and other archival footage, animation and snappy editing to create a very entertaining, if slightly smoothed-over, film that doubles as a sort of mini-history of the American concert business.

Even though we didn’t play the show I felt all of your passion! Sending you all love!” Some fans who attended the show say the hail left them with “broken bones and bruises” as they rushed to evacuate.

Gabrielle Union-Wade on Expanding Her Creative Possibilities With ‘The Perfect Find’ and ‘My Journey to 50’

Angelique Jackson When Gabrielle Union-Wade turned 50 last October, the veteran actor and producer experienced a personal transformation, which has also filtered into her latest work. This era of her career, she says, is about embracing the possibilities. “Whatever I thought that my dreams were, I was making them small,” Union-Wade told Variety at the American Black Film Festival (ABFF). “Turning 50 is about making things bigger by expanding the idea of what the possibilities could even be.” Union-Wade debuted two projects at ABFF: the Netflix rom-com “The Perfect Find” and the BET+ docuseries “My Journey to 50,” which chronicled her birthday pilgrimage to Africa. She celebrated the BET+ series first, hosting a private bowling and ice-skating bash at the Miami Beach Edition on June 15, the same night the doc began streaming.

‘Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny’ director explains Shia LaBeouf’s absence from film

Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny director James Mangold has explained why Shia LaBeouf will not be returning to the franchise.LaBeouf played the titular archaeologist and adventurer’s son, Mutt Williams, in 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, directed by Steven Spielberg.Explaining LaBeuof’s absence at the Dial of Destiny Los Angeles premiere on Wednesday (June 14), Mangold told Variety: “I think the point I had was that when I came on, I wanted to capture that wonderful energy between Indy and an intrepid female character.”“So that was my first goal, and there’s only so many people you can edge into a picture,” he added. The fifth instalment in the Indiana Jones franchise stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Indy’s goddaughter, Helena.Back in 2017, screenwriter David Koepp revealed that LaBeouf would not be returning. “Harrison plays Indiana Jones, that I can certainly say,” he told Entertainment Weekly, “And the Shia LaBeouf character is not in the film.”The latest offering marks the final instalment of the Indiana Jones franchise, and sees Harrison Ford reprise his iconic role at the age of 80.So far, Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny has received mixed reviews from critics, with some hailing it as delivering a “sweet blast of pure nostalgia”, while others have declared it to be a “complete waste of time”.It’s also predicted to earn a disappointing $60million at the US box office in its opening weekend. In a four-star review of The Dial Of Destiny, NME wrote: “The biggest question – could another director succeed Steven Spielberg after four Indy films in a row – is well-answered.

‘Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny’ predicted to bomb at box office

Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny is predicted to earn a disappointing $60million at the US box office in its opening weekend. As reported by Deadline, box office analysts are predicting the fifth and final film in the franchise will take between $60 million to $70 million over a five-day holiday opening. While those sort of numbers would be reason to celebrate for most movies, Harrison Ford’s last outing as the archaeologist action hero was expected to be a big hitter for Disney and Lucasfilm. The Dial Of Destiny‘s 3-day opening is down from the $100.1million opening for Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, which is widely considering to be the worst film in the franchise. It’s unclear why The Dial Of Destiny is projected to underperform at the box office, but it could be related to the mediocre reviews that followed the film’s premiere at Cannes last month.

Judge dismisses one of the song-theft lawsuits over Dua Lipa’s Levitating

A US judge has dismissed one of the song-theft lawsuits filed in relation to Dua Lipa’s 2020 hit ‘Levitating’. Florida-based band Artikal Sound System claimed that that song lifted elements of their 2017 track ‘Live Your Life’.But the judge wasn’t impressed with the theory put forward by the band for how Lipa and her team may have heard ‘Live Your Life’ before writing ‘Levitating’.Which possibly isn’t surprising.

Belinda Carlisle on Her First Solo Pop Record in 27 Years, Why the Go-Go’s Are Finally Over and Being ‘Born Without the Fear Chip’

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Of all the things Belinda Carlisle has been mad about in recent years, her career as a pop solo artist has not been high up there, from all appearances. That changed with the May release of “Kismet,” a five-song EP that finally found Carlisle dipping a toe back into the recording studio with her first new collection of English-language pop music since 1996, including a single titled “Big Big Love,” which really did have the beat (as opposed to her last album, a mantra record). But if there’s any pop star of her generation that hasn’t cravenly coveted the spotlight, and isn’t likely to start now, it’s Carlisle, who seems like she’d be perfectly content even if Diane Warren hadn’t talked her into finally reentering the studio for a new batch of songs. Long an American expat and constant traveler, the singer seems quite content to spend most of her time with her husband of 37 years, Morgan Mason, at home in Mexico City, with only occasional forays onto the road. She’s not making any promises one way or another about whether this EP presages a full solo album… though Carlisle will offer assurances that the Go-Go’s are “done,” having gone out on top, in her estimation, with a long-, long-awaited Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
