Ottawa Set To Welcome Gay Rugby’s ‘World Cup’

When Alicia Keys sings her 2021 hit, «Come for Me,» she does not mean it literally. The famed singer-songwriter responded to a viral video that showed a fan aggressively kissing her on the cheek during her concert in Canada this week and revealed it was just as shocking for her as it looked. Keys was walking through the crowd at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena for her «Alicia + Keys World Tour» on Monday when a concertgoer leaned over the railing, grabbed the singer's face and planted a kiss on her cheek.  posted the video to Instagram Wednesday with the caption, «GET ALICIA KEYS OUTTA THERE RIGHT NOW!!!» To which Keys responded, «Trust me, I was like what the F***!!! Don’t she know what time it is???» A post shared by HOLLYWOOD UNLOCKED (@hollywoodunlocked)The now-viral moment happened while the GRAMMY Award-winning singer was performing “Empire State of Mind,” her 2009 collaboration with JAY-Z.

Two radio stations in Canada have confirmed that they will not be playing Arcade Fire music following news this week of multiple allegations of sexual misconduct by four separate people against frontman Win Butler. Ottawa City News reports that CBC will “pause” playing Arcade Fire on both CBC Music FM and the SiriusXM CBC Radio 3 station "until we learn more about the situation." Toronto's Indie88 also confirmed that “a quick decision" had been made to pull the band’s music with a "fulsome internal conversation about the permanence of this decision" to follow.

Michaela Zee editor “Ivy and Bean” director Elissa Down gushed over working with “Modern Family” star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, describing him as her “spirit animal,” at the film’s premiere in Los Angeles on Monday. “We were shooting [during] a heat wave in Canada. The set was hot, but [Jesse] wasn’t waiting in his trailer — he came straight in and he goes, ‘I’ve got a joke to pitch,'” Down told Variety on the red carpet at Harmony Gold. “He just loves improvisation and he was such a generous actor.” Based on the children’s book series by Annie Barrows, the upcoming film trilogy follows the adventures of unlikely best friends Ivy (Keslee Blalock) and Bean (Madison Skye Validum), from hunting down ghosts to enrolling in dance lessons. Ferguson plays ballet teacher Monsieur Joy in the third installment, “Ivy and Bean: Doomed to Dance.”

Manori Ravindran International Editor Soumya Sriraman, the former BritBox CEO who joined Amazon to lead its Prime Video Channels business in the U.S., is stepping down after two years at the SVOD. Sources indicate the executive is still at Amazon but will be leaving imminently for another role elsewhere. Sriraman is best known for her work pioneering the best-of-British streaming service BritBox in the U.S., where she is based. The SVOD launched there in 2017 and quickly reached 250,000 subscribers in one year. By the time Sriraman departed, in October 2020, the service had more than 1.5 million subscribers. The successful U.S. launch allowed joint operators BBC Studios and ITV to expand the brand to other markets, including Australia and Canada.

“Top Chef Canada” is about to reach a major milestone.

Ellia Green, Australian Olympic gold medalist and former rugby union player, came out as transgender on Tuesday. Green, the first Olympian to come out as a transgender man, represented Australia in the women’s rugby sevens, winning Gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics and Silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Green came out in a heartfelt speech at the opening of the Bingham Cup’s international summit on ending transphobia and homophobia in sports. Bingham Cup also known as the Gay Rugby World Cup, is the world’s largest amateur rugby union tournament, and is named after Mark Bingham, a hero of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The 10th Bingham Cup, known as the Gay Rugby World Cup, is scheduled to start later this week in Ottawa, Canada. Over 1,700 LGBTQI players from over 150 teams and 20 participating countries, including Australia, will participate in the tournament from August 17 to August 21, 2022, hosted by the local team Ottawa Wolves. The world’s largest amateur rugby union tournament is named after Mark Bingham, a hero of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.  Australia’s favourite gay rugby team, Sydney Convicts are the current holders of the Bingham Cup.
