Dan Gore’s red card for a strong tackle in his side's friendly against Wrexham was unwarranted, according to a former Manchester United academy graduate.
The midfielder was chosen to captain a youth-packed side against the League Two outfit but was given his marching orders shortly after half-time when the referee adjudged him to have led with his studs into a challenge.
The player was aghast at the decision and replays showed that it may have been harsh. The 10 men of United limped to a 3-1 defeat as inexperience came to the fore.
The dismissal had a telling impact on the sway of play but pundits on MUTV questioned whether a red card should have been shown in the first place.

One of those was former United striker Danny Webber, who said the referee had got the decision wrong. He said: “In real time it's a full-blooded tackle, but it's not an unfair tackle.
“I think the momentum in his follow-through is what brings the player down. I don't think it's a red card and you can see how disappointed he was when he was sent off. It for sure changes the dynamic of the game.''
Gore has been included in United’s tour senior squad after impressing during the friendlies against Leeds in Oslo and Lyon in Scotland, providing the assist for Donny van de Beek’s winner in the latter.
Having played in San Diego against Wrexham, he will not feature against Real Madrid in Houston, Texas.
Alvaro Fernandez, Radek Vitek and Hannibal Mejbri will also sit out the contest. Kobbie Mainoo was rested and so could feature against Los Blancos.
