Netflix has renewed You for a fifth season and confirmed when the hit series will end for good. The psychological thriller – based on Caroline Kepnes’ best-selling novel of the same name – has proved a huge hit for the streaming giant since it premiered in 2018.
The series has just wrapped up its fourth run, which has spent five weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10 with more than 323m hours viewed worldwide. Each season follows the notorious Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgely) as he becomes infatuated with a new woman.
The dangerously charming Joe uses the internet and social media to gather the most intimate details of his prey to feed a growing and toxic obsession as he quietly and strategically removes every obstacle – and person – in his way. The latest series saw the anti-hero cross the pond to the UK, where he masquerades as a university professor in London.

Now Netflix has confirmed Joe will return for another chapter – but it will be his last. That’s because You will wrap up after its fifth season.
According to executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, the show was “always conceived as a five-season journey.” Showrunner Sera Gamble – who led the series through all four seasons – is passing the baton as she works on other projects but will continue to be an executive producer on the series.
