NEON Acquires Jamila Wignot’s Documentary ‘Ailey’ – Sundance

On Thursday, Newman and his girlfriend, singer Cyn, announced they had welcomed a baby boy after the 27-year-old performer managed to keep her pregnancy a secret. «Surprise! I’m a mommy!» Cyn, whose full name is Cynthia Nabozny, captioned photos on Instagram.

Hulu on Wednesday unveiled premiere dates for its spring slate of original documentaries, including a film on the “cautionary tale” of WeWork and its charismatic co-founder Adam Neumann.

The Oscar shortlists are out in nine categories including International Film, Documentary Feature, Music Score and Song, Makeup & Hairstyling, Visual Effects and Shorts. These are the first indicator of strength in the race for the 93rd Annual Academy Awards and, though the lists contain few real surprises, is especially good news for those films that are mentioned more than once.

CAA has signed documentarianJamila Wignot, who recently premiered her latest Ailey at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. Wignot previously directed the Peabody, Emmy, and NAACP award-winning PBS miniseriesAfrican Americans: Many Rivers to Cross.

Neon has picked up Jamila Wignot’s documentary Ailey, about dance and choreography legend Alvin Ailey, after its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. The deal is Neon's second at Sundance after it nabbed the North American rights to Flee, an animated doc from Jonas Poher Rasmussen that counts Riz Ahmed and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as executive producers.

The film debuted on Saturday and offers rare archival footage of performances by the Ailey Company, along with never-before-heard audio interviews recorded in the last year’s of Ailey’s life.
