A woman has shared her experience of contracting an unusual fungal disease which could be part of a new global epidemic. According to the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the woman was infected by drug-resistant ringworm, also known as tinea.

The ringworm was identified as Trichophyton indotineae, which is currently spreading through India and other parts of South Asia. However, the woman had not been abroad shortly before she was infected.
