A mother-of-two said she felt “completely helpless” when she became paralysed from the waist down minutes after telling her children she was having a bath before taking them to nursery.
As she sat in the bath 30-year-old Jessica Ennis, from Gelligaer in Caerphilly, Wales, had no idea what had happened to her body on the morning of June 21 but she had been experiencing pain and discomfort all over her body for months, stretching back to August 2022.
Jessica, an aesthetics worker is now confined to a bed at Ystrad Mynach Hospital, having been pulled out of the bath by her mother and taken to hospital by paramedics. Since she was admitted in June that she has been diagnosed with functional neurological disorder (FND) – a sudden condition which causes problems with how the brain receives and sends information to the rest of the body, causing serious arm and leg weakness and seizures. It is often also associated with an accompanying all-over pain, reports Wales Online.

Jessica said she is now suffering at least two seizures a day and cannot control her own limbs.
