This was the moment a motorbike burst into flames after a 'commotion' broke out on a busy south Manchester road. Police and fire crews descended on Barlow Moor Road, in Didsbury, this afternoon (August 19).
It followed a motorbike becoming engulfed in flames, with heavy smoke billowing. An eyewitness, who reported the fire to emergency services, told the Manchester Evening News she saw a group of motorcyclists who quickly dispersed when the fire broke out.
"I came out of my flat and saw a commotion with a few people on motorbikes," she said. "Traffic had stopped in the road.

"I was quite far away but then I suddenly saw them disappear, and a motorbike was left in the middle of the road. It was quickly engulfed in flames and there was smoke billowing into the sky.
"I was worried the fire could spread to trees or neighbouring buildings. I called the fire service and they arrived quickly to put it out.
"Later on I saw police at the scene." Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said its crews remained at the scene for around 30 minutes, while police were also in attendance.

A spokesperson for GMFRS said: "Shortly before 1.25pm this afternoon (Saturday, August 19), one fire engine from Cheadle fire station was called to attend a motorbike fire on Barlow Moor Road, Manchester. Crews arrived quickly and used one breathing apparatus, one hose reel and oil absorbent mats to extinguish the fire.
