Aston Merrygold and Sarah Richards’ long-awaited wedding day fell on September 18, just a day before The Queen’s funeral following her passing on September 8. And the couple ensured they paid their respects to the late monarch, asking their guests to take part in a minute’s silence at 8pm to remember Her Majesty. The moment came during the speeches for the big day, which lasted an hour and 20 minutes.
The speeches were poignantly paused at 8pm, with Aston and Sarah’s 155 guests bowing their heads for a sombre moment. Details surrounding The Queen’s cause of death - which was attributed to old age - were officially released to the public last week, with her time of death also being noted as 3:10pm. Aston and Sarah married in Liverpool’s Sefton Park in the stunning Palm House in a ceremony exclusively covered by OK!.
As well as Aston giving his groom’s speech, Sarah’s brother Matt and her maid of honour Emma also delivered speeches, along with Aston’s best man Berkan and his groomsman Michael, Jeffrey, Dax and JLS bandmate Marvin Humes. Aston’s emotional speech lasted nearly 40-minutes and saw him open up about his and Sarah’s sons Grayson, four, and Macaulay, two, his parents and his JLS bandmates and meeting Sarah during rehearsals for one of their tours. Around 30 minutes into his speech Aston he got to the “main event” – Sarah.
“I was infatuated from the moment I saw you,” he told his bride. “I watch you with our boys and fall in love with you more every single day. They might not realise it yet but they are the luckiest boys on the planet to have you as their mother.
