Missing Jay Slater: Tenerife holidaymakers see police helicopter search tourist hotspots as officers patrol beaches

Holidaymakers have spotted the police helicopter flying overhead in Tenerife amid the search for a missing British teenager.
A huge search is ongoing on the Spanish island for Jay Slater, who has been missing since Monday morning (June 17). Emergency crews, volunteers and the 19-year-old's family and friends have been focusing their efforts in the Rural de Teno Park area, close to the village of Masca - where Jay's phone was last tracked to before it ran out of battery.
But police have also been carrying out investigations in popular tourist spots in the south of the island, including in Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos. One UK tourist sent videos to the Manchester Evening News from las Americas and said that they have seen the police helicopter flying 'up and down and up and down' over recent days.

They added that they have seen police officers patrolling down the busy beach front since news of Jay's disappearance came to light. On Wednesday, it was revealed that officers had searched the apartment in Los Cristianos where Jay, from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, had been staying with a friend before going missing.
Yesterday the Civil Guard also said that the search had been dramatically switched to the south of the island, before it was moved back to the north. A spokesman for the Civil Guard said at 12.30pm local time: "The search operation has moved to the south of the island.
"The search areas are Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas." The spokesman wasn’t able to offer any more detail on the reason for the switch but added: "It’s obviously down to information that’s been received as the investigation has progressed.
