Michael Mosley has explained how living like the people of Spain, Italy and Greece can help keep heart disease at bay.
The health guru and author of Just One Thing is a known advocate of the Mediterranean diet for weight loss as it helped his waist line and keeps his heart in good shape.
Writing for the Daily Mail, Michael says that following the eating plan inspired by countries like Spain and Greece for ten years has helped him keep the weight off while keeping his blood pressure low. It focuses on foods like fish, olive oil, nuts, lean meat and plenty of fruit and vegetables.
The World Health Organization (WHO) states that cardiovascular disease is the biggest killer of men and women globally and it can manifest silently without showing symptoms until it's too late.
Michael stressed how important it is to keep his ticker in check following the premature death of his father from the condition, making him high risk. However, it's not "as simple" as eating like a Mediterranean resident for heart health, but also living their more relaxed lifestyle.
Speaking on the Mediterranean diet, he said: "While these foods are anti-inflammatory (and chronic inflammation helps drive heart disease), there is so much more to benefit from when looking at the Mediterranean lifestyle.
"In fact, it is the traditional Mediterranean lifestyle and not just the food that’s protective and beneficial. So much so that scientists in Spain have now created something called the Mediterranean Lifestyle Index (or MEDLIFE) which takes into account other aspects of the Mediterranean lifestyle that are useful, including activity levels and socialising with friends."
He explained that the MEDLIFE system is based on points which are awarded not just by eating

Emily Eavis has explained how Glastonbury was powered entirely by renewable energy for the first time this year.Organisers previously confirmed ahead of this year’s festival that it would be run entirely using renewable fuel. Now, Eavis has spoken further in a new interview about they managed to achieve such a feat. She told Access All Areas: “Being able to power the entire festival without having to rely on fossil fuels this year has been a real breakthrough, but it is the culmination of lots of baby steps that have seen us steadily increase our use of renewable energy – both from the grid as well as from our own onsite sources like our solar PV array on our cowshed roof and our anaerobic digester that turns waste cow manure into biogas.“We’ve been trialling alternative and renewable fuels for over a decade. And after some successful trials with virgin, palm oil-free renewable HVO at the last couple of festivals, we decided to use it – in place of fossil oil-based fuel – in all our generators for this year’s festival.”Organisers previously confirmed that the festival has avoided using any fossil fuels since 1984 and will continue to opt for solar, wind and pedal power options on the fields going forward.Eavis has now added: “This year’s switch to renewable fuels is just another step on our journey.
