A family have been left terrified after masked men broke into their home while they slept in their beds.
Laura, 33, says she never heard the two men force their way into her house before they made off in her BMW at around 1.45am on Monday. When the mum-of-one, from Penicuik in Midlothian, went downstairs later that morning she found bolt cutters next to the back door, that was left wide open.
She says she's grateful that her and her eight year-old-son weren't hurt - but the pair have been left scared in their own home.
Laura told Edinburgh Live: "I feel like I'm emotionally unstable and panicky. I've been sleeping down the stairs so I can hear anything, and my little boy is upstairs until we get a new alarm system.
"That should be arriving tomorrow, so hopefully I'll feel better once they come. I have cameras outside my house, but that isn't enough. I didn't know they were in here, it is so important to get an alarm system."
Chilling pictures showed the masked pair standing outside the home before they broke in and stole the keys to Laura's car.
She added: "The police said these guys were professionals and knew what they were doing. They came in so silent and I only woke up because my dog was growling and cowering. I got up to calm him down but I never went down the stairs to check. I'm glad I didn't because who knows what they would have done.
