Martin Lewis shared an excellent money-saving tip for anyone with one or more bedrooms in their house. On Wednesday night's hour-long special of ITV's Martin Lewis Money Show, 49 year old Martin discussed the rapidly increasing cost of living with his co-host Angelica Bell. In a segment dedicated to water bills, which is expected to rise by two per cent on average in England and Wales, Martin advised viewers to get a water meter to save money.
Giving an example, Martin said that if only two people were living in a four-bed, they would save money by installing a water meter. "If there are more or the same number of bedrooms as there are people in your home if you live in England and Wales - it is likely that a water meter will cut your costs," Martin said. He explained: "When you apply for a water meter, you have up to a year, usually as long as you are not forced to have one, to change your mind.
"If they say you can't have a water meter, you can ask to have an asset charge which effectively assumes what water you would use. "The reason this all works is because the rate is based on the value of your house." Martin encouraged people to visit the website ccwater.org.uk, which is the Consumer Council for water. He went on to reveal another "water-saving freebie" to help people save more on their water bills.
