'Mank,' 'Tenet,' 'Da 5 Bloods' Win Art Directors Guild Awards

Nelson Coates has been reelected president of the Art Directors Guild, IATSE Local 800. Coates, who ran unopposed, was first elected to the post in 2015.

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Mulan and Promising Young Woman were the film winners at the 2021 Costume Designers Guild Awards on Tuesday night. The virtual event — recognizing excellence in film, TV and short-form costume design — was hosted by To All the Boys star Lana Condor and streamed live on Twitter.

Another day in April means another virtual awards show keeping zoom cameras busy. Monday evening was left for the Costume Designer Guild who, as expected, brought the looks for their ceremony even if it was in their own living rooms.

The 25th Annual Art Director’s Guild Awards is taking place tonight as a reimagined virtual show. Hosted by Curb Your Enthusiasm’s J.B. Smoove, the event runs from from 4 p.m.- 6 p.m., PT and celebrates outstanding production design in theatrical motion pictures, television, commercials, animated features and music videos. Outstanding Achievement in Feature Film award from the DGA will probably go on to win the Best Director Oscar, just as they have all but four times in this century and all but eight times in the 72 years.
