Janelle Monáe has announced plans to play London’s O2 Academy in Brixton and a three night residency in Manchester.The singer will perform at the London venue, which recently announced its re-opening, having been closed since December 2022, on June 29.Tickets go on sale this Thursday (March 21) at 10am GMT and a pre-sale will take place from 10am GMT tomorrow (March 19) until 9am on Thursday. Tickets can be purchased here.The venue will be re-opening next month with opening shows from Nirvana UK (a tribute to Nirvana), The Smyths (a tribute to The Smiths), Definitely Mightbe (a tribute to Oasis) and UK Foo Fighters (a tribute to Foo Fighters).Beyond that, Editors have also announced a show at the iconic London venue on Thursday May 2, with The Black Keys set to play a two night residency on Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 May.Monáe will also play a trio of shows at Aviva Studios from July 2-4 in Manchester with tickets going on sale for Factory International members at 10am GMT on Wednesday (March 20) before tickets go on general sale the following day.

A gig at Band on the Wall this evening has been postponed just hours before it was set to take place.
Rapper Wiley was due to perform at the music venue on Swan Street this evening (February 28) but ticket holders were informed this morning that the show has now been rearranged due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’.
In the 2017 New Year Honours list, Wiley, whose real name is Richard Cowie, was handed an MBE for services to music. The Wearing My Rolex performer had been widely regarded as the ‘Godfather of Grime’ after first making a name for himself through pirate radio stations in the late 90s and early 00s.

But the grime star made headlines in 2020 when he posted a series of posts and videos on social media that many deemed to be anti-Semitic. The comments led to the performer being dropped by his then management team and was also handed a temporary ban on Twitter.
Wiley told Sky News at the time that he was sorry 'for generalising' but also refused to distance himself from the majority of the comments made. It was announced this week that the musician had forfeited his MBE for ‘bringing the honours system into disrepute’.
A list published on the Cabinet Office website revealed that the award had been forfeited earlier this month, with a source revealing that the MBE will be 'cancelled and annulled'. In a lengthy statement online, the Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) said it had 'worked tirelessly' to ensure that the musician faced 'ruinous consequences' for his comments.

In written submissions to Manchester City Council’s licensing committee, the operator of AO Arena said it only wanted to promote licensing objectives to “safeguard public safety and the prevention of public nuisance”.The firm argued Co-op Live should close by midnight at the latest, and not be given the ability to open 24/7 on 25 occasions every year as requested.Gary Grant, representing AO Arena operators ASM Global, claimed that the brand took an interest in the appeal for a licence by Co-op Live as they are “significant stakeholders in Manchester’s cultural and leisure life” (via Manchester Evening News).From there, Co-op Live hit back at the AO Arena, accusing it of making a “ludicrous and disingenuous” objection to the £385million venue’s opening.
