Harry Maguire's retrial for charges of assault and attempted bribery after a family holiday in Greece has finally been set for February 7.
Maguire was convicted of the charges, which also included resisting arrest, in August 2020 and handed a suspended jail sentence of 21 months and 10 days after a trial on the island of Syros.
He immediately launched an appeal, which automatically led to the conviction being quashed and a new trial held at a higher court, but a date for the retrial has only just been set and will take place more than three-and-a-half years after the original conviction.
The Manchester United defender was arrested during a family holiday on the Greek island of Mykonos at the end of the 2019/20 season. He said the plain-clothed police officers didn't identify themselves at the time and that he tried to run away before being beaten.

Speaking to the BBC after returning home in August 2020, he said: "I don't wish it on anybody. Obviously the situation has made it difficult for one of the biggest clubs in the world, so I regret putting the fans and the club through this, but I did nothing wrong.
"I found myself in a situation where it could have happened to anybody and anywhere.
"I know what happened that night. I know the truth. When I speak about it I get worked up but that's because it just makes me feel a bit angry inside. I will move on. I am mentally strong enough."
Maguire is unlikely to attend the retrial, which comes during the season. His 2022/23 campaign finished after England's resounding win against North Macedonia on Monday night.
