Anyone who followed the Championship last season will have surely had their eye caught by Alvaro Fernandez. In a tough, physical league - where pretty football and individual quality is sometimes in short supply - the Spaniard was a breath of fresh air. In the Manchester United loan man, Preston North End had a free spirit down the left flank.
Fernandez endeared himself to the Deepdale faithful almost instantly, after providing two glorious assists away to Huddersfield Town in the Carabao Cup. The youngster was forced off through injury in that game but had the joy of walking around the pitch, and past the sold-out away end in Yorkshire, where the PNE fans sung his name loud and proud.
Preston boss Ryan Lowe had a point of difference in Fernandez - someone with the technique and athleticism to drive forward devastatingly with the ball and ask real questions in the final third. The former Real Madrid man is one of those players who glides and twirls around the pitch - the quality was there for all to see from first minute to last in Lancashire.
