A man who deliberately set his partner on fire after he soaked her in petrol has been accused of murder after she passed away 21 years later. Jacqueline Kirk's injuries were so severe that they prevented her from being able to be safely operated on, a court heard.
Jacqueline was 41 at the time when she was left with 35 per cent burns after her ex-partner Steven Craig viciously set her alight in 1998. She miraculously survived the horrific attack, after receiving 14 operations, and battled through the extreme medical issues she was suffering from, the Mirror reports.
The cold hearted thug was convicted of inflicting grievous bodily harm after he stood trial in 2000 and he was subsequently sentenced to jail. However, Craig is now back in court after prosecutors claimed he is to blame for the passing of Jacqueline, 62, in 2019.
Prosecutors allege her burn injuries played a ''significant'' role in the cause of her death. Craig denies murder and his defence team argued the injuries he inflicted did not result in her death.
Bristol Crown Court was told the burns and scarring on her body meant after her intestines swelled the rest of body could not adequately expand. Prosecutors allege this caused her diaphragm to rupture and she died at the age of 62.
It was claimed that without the scarring and burns she suffered as a result of the attack, doctors would have operated on her to repair the rupture and saved her life. Prosecutor Richard Smith told the court: “In 1998 this defendant, Steven Craig, attacked a woman by pouring petrol over her and setting her alight with a flame. As you might expect from such an act, the injuries inflicted were grave and significant.
''However at that time, way back in 1998, the victim survived. As

Zack Sharf Brendan Fraser’s awards season with “The Whale” continued over the weekend at the Mill Valley Film Festival, where he was on hand for a screening of the film and to accept the annual event’s lifetime achievement award. Speaking to SFGATE on the red carpet (via Entertainment Weekly), Fraser issued a humorous apology to the city of San Francisco due to a traffic jam the “George of the Jungle” production caused over 25 years ago. Mill Valley is about 14 miles north of San Francisco. “When we were doing ‘George of the Jungle,’ George goes to rescue a parachutist tangled in the Golden Gate Bridge,” Fraser said, citing the Golden Gate Bridge instead of the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge which was featured in the film. “That means Disney put a mannequin hanging by a parachute from the uprights. It brought traffic to a standstill on either side of the bridge.”
