Gary Neville says he would concede changing the name of Old Trafford if it meant there would be a change of ownership at Manchester United.

Supporters are demanding that a number of investment ventures are implemented at the club, including a revamp of Old Trafford. It’s one of the points Sir Jim Ratcliffe pointed to when he declared his interest in a long-term takeover.

One suggestion mooted by others is that the ground could be renamed to bring in extra revenue, as Arsenal have done when they moved to the Emirates Stadium. However, United legend Eric Cantona threatened to “quit football forever” if Old Trafford lost its historic name.
He told The Athletic: “Can you imagine Old Trafford becoming a new stadium called by a brand? If one day they do that, I am sorry but I am not a fan of United anymore.”
The 56-year-old added: “Please, don’t call this stadium Nestle, or Amazon, please. Old Trafford is Old Trafford.”
Reds icon Neville says he disagrees with Cantona on the matter, suggesting that it’s something that may benefit the club long-term. Speaking to the BBC, the former right-back was asked about Cantona’s view that it is a “mistake” to become an ambassador for the Qatar World Cup, as David Beckham has.
He responded: “Look, that’s Eric’s view. Eric said yesterday that he didn’t think Manchester United’s ground, Old Trafford, should ever be called anything else other than Old Trafford.
