A man and a woman have been evacuated from their upstairs flat in a South Ayrshire town after a fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Emergency services descended on Dalrymple Street in Girvan, around 20 miles south of Ayr, after receiving reports of a fire in a residential property at around 12.40am on Sunday September 18. Four fire engines were deployed to the scene and have remained there throughout the night tackling the blaze and dampening down the scene.
The road was still closed as of 10.30am, according to trunk road monitoring body Amey. No-one is reported to have been injured in the fire after the two occupants of the flat, a man and a woman, were safely removed from the building.
A local resident said there were four fire engines spread across Dalrymple Street and nearby Wilson Street. Police have also been spotted at the scene, but have confirmed to the Record that the blaze is not being treated as suspicious.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We received a call to attend a building fire at a residential premises on Dalrymple Street, Girvan at around 12.40am on Sunday September 18 2022. Four appliances are still in attendance at this time."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 12.50 am on Sunday 18 September 2022, police were alerted to a fire at a flat on Dalrymple Street, Girvan. The two occupants of the flat, a man and woman, were evacuated and no one is reported as being injured. "The fire is not being treated as suspicious. Police and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service remain at the scene.
"Dalrymple Street remains closed. Local diversions are in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area until further notice."
