Married At First Sight star Amy Christophers has revealed the reason she turned down the opportunity to appear on Love Island. Amy, 36, a glamour model-turned-sports presenter appeared on Married at First Sight UK in 2021 and was matched with Joshua Christie by the dating experts. Despite a few hurdles along the way, the pair made it to the end of the experiment but announced they had split at the reunion show a few months later.
While she admitted she had fallen in love with Joshua, the sports journalist also had the opportunity to appear on Love Island back in 2019 in another quest to find love, but turned it down due to work commitments. During an interview with Spin Genie, the reality TV star said: "I had the opportunity to do Love Island in 2019, but I turned it down to do the women’s world cup." She continued: "I would have been one of the older ones on the show. I was literally at the cut-off point because I was 32.
Obviously, my life could have been a lot more different if I chose to do it. But, it just didn’t feel right to me at that time. Mainly because it’s too public, and the scrutiny is unreal with Love Island.
"I had never heard of Married at First Sight when I signed up. I remember chatting to my friend and saying, ‘Is there a show where someone can just find me a husband?’ And she said yeah, funnily enough, there is one called Married at First Sight and they’re taking applications. "I was debating it for a while and then one day, I was at the end of my tether and said, ‘What have I got to lose?’ so I applied." While her relationship with Joshua didn't last, Amy, who hails from Cornwall, said she has "no hard feelings".
