Fans have been paying tribute to M*A*S*H star Eileen Saki in the wake of the news of her death at the age of 79. Eileen died on Monday, May 1, in Los Angeles after a reported battle with cancer. She was best known for starring as Rosie in the hit American comedy series, and was the longest running actress to star as the role.
Rosie was the business owner of the appropriately named Rosie’s Bar. Confirming the news of her passing, Eileen’s former co-star Jeff Maxwell wrote on the MASH Matters Podcast Facebook page: “Our sweet Eileen. Our sassy Rosie.
“On behalf of her husband Bob, we extend sincere appreciation for the hundreds of M*A*S*H fans who filled Eileen's final days with peace, encouragement, and love. She read every email and responded to as many as she could." The post continued: "We will share more remembrances of Eileen Saki throughout the day. You are invited to do the same.
“Our sweet, sweet Eileen. How we love you. How we will miss you.” In a separate post, Jeff, 76, went on: “Eileen captivated you with a twinkle and smile in her soul.
I am very grateful to have had that experience. It’s one I will cherish forever. “My heart and love go to Bob and their family.” While Jeff didn’t confirm the nature of Eileen’s death, according to TMZ the late actress had been battling cancer.
