‘Luther: The Fallen Sun’ Arrests 3M UK Viewers, But Struggles To Match Other Netflix Movies

Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) has announced its in-person programming for CAAMFest 2023 which will take place from May 11 to 21. This year’s festival will kick off with Lionsgates’s anticipated comedy “Joy Ride,” directed by Adele Lim. Opening night will be held at The Castro Theater in San Francisco on May 11 with a commemoration during the opening night gala.  “These last few years have deeply altered us and we are only starting to journey towards each other again,” says festival and exhibitions director Thúy Trần. “CAAMFest 2023 is a call to gather so that we may witness each other’s transformations, restore our bonds, and bask in our joys.” 

Netflix has set the full cast for Mulligan, its upcoming animated comedy series from Tina Fey, who also stars, and Robert Carlock (30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt). In addition to Fey, Nat Faxon, Chrissy Teigen, Sam Richardson, Dana Carvey and Phil LaMarr have been cast as series regulars and Daniel Radcliffe, Kevin Michael Richardson Ayo Edebiri and Ronny Cheng will recur. The series will premiere Friday, May 12 on Netflix. See the character posters below.

Grant Gustin is finally speaking out about The Flash.

Sharon Acker, best known as Lee Marvin’s unfaithful wife in the 1967 film Point Blank, died March 16 in a Toronto residential home. She was 87 and her death was confirmed by daughter Kim Everest, a casting director. 

Sun Valley Film Festival runs from March 29th to April 2nd and will feature 18 narrative and documentary titles, including opening night selection, “Fancy Dance,” which is the directorial debut of co-writer Erica Tremblay, and the world premiere of Anthony Mandler’s “Surrounded,” which will close the festival. Award honorees include Josh Brolin (“No Country for Old Men,” “Outer Range”), who will receive the Vision Award, and Sophie Thatcher (“Yellowjackets,” “The Book of Boba Fett”), who will be given the Rising Star Award. “Last year, people were dying to get out, and this year our ticket sales are outpacing 2022. Once again, there’s a strong appetite for live events,” says festival founder and executive director Teddy Grennan.

The director and star of “The Room” has debuted the trailer for “Big Shark,” his first follow-up feature to his trademark 2003 cult melodrama. “Big Shark” follows three firefighters, Georgie, Patrick and Tim, as they work to save New Orleans from an attack by — you guessed it — a very big shark. While this first look at “Big Shark” is only now being debuted online, the trailer has already been playing for audiences at theatrical screenings of “The Room” over recent months. “Big Shark” will kick off its rollout on April 2 with a debut screening at Cinema 21 in Portland, Ore. Screenings will follow over the coming months, with a tentative schedule of engagements hosted by Prytania Theatres at Canal Place in New Orleans (April 28 and 29), the Balboa Theatre in San Francisco, Calif. (May 5 and 6), the Landmark Westwood in Los Angeles (June 2 and 3) and the Village East by Angelika in New York City (August 10, 11 and 12).

Lise Pedersen Los Angeles non-profit The Film Collaborative has boarded Swedish director Tove Pils’ debut feature “Labor,” which is competing in the Nordic:Dox section at the Copenhagen Intl. Documentary Film Festival, CPH:DOX. The film follows Hanna, who leaves her family and girlfriend behind in her small Swedish hometown and travels to San Francisco to explore her sexuality in the city’s vibrant queer scene. She soon meets Chloe, a professional dominatrix, and Cyd, a trans man who works as an escort for gay men. Together with her new friends, she embarks on a journey that takes her further and further away from her life in Sweden. “Labor” was shot over more than a decade, and one of the reasons it took them so long to put the film together was their concern for the protagonists’ anonymity and the effect it might have on their lives, Pils explains to Variety.

Luther: The Fallen Sun re-written to make the film a little less scary than the original TV series.Netflix‘s cause for concern in terms of terror were prior criticisms aimed at the BBC series that gave birth to the film. Luther has frequently been spotlighted for its graphic violence against female victims – something that supposedly worried the streaming giant.According to Luther writer and creator Neil Cross, as reported by LadBible, Netflix were worried about the original script being too “frightening” for audiences as it opened with a female victim.

Police have arrested “Chrisley Knows Best” reality star Todd Chrisley’s son, Kyle, for aggravated assault over an incident that took place at his job. On Tuesday, police in Tennessee took Kyle Chrisley, 32, into custody on a warrant for aggravated assault after he allegedly“was involved in a physical altercation with a supervisor,” per a statement from police in Smyrna, Tennessee. At some point, Kyle pulled  out a “fixed blade,” according to the statement. After undergoing booking procedures, Kyle’s bond was set at $3,000, and he was then transferred to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.
