Baby killer Lucy Letby could be facing constant surveillance to ensure she does not commit suicide in prison, according to an official.
The 33-year-old is expected to be on 24-hour suicide watch as she faces spending the rest of her life behind bars. The nurse was found guilty of the murders of seven babies and the attempted murders of six more on Friday following a 10-month trial at Manchester Crown Court.
The court had previously heard that she had considered taking her own life after being blamed for babies’ deaths at the neonatal unit in Chester where she worked.

Speaking to the Mirror, Ian Carson of the Prison Officers Association said: “It wouldn’t surprise me if she’s under constant watch with eyes on her 24/7. It would be very embarrassing if she kills herself before justice gets done.
"Prison officials may decide instead to check in on her every 10 minutes if she’s not deemed such a risk. They’ll have more staff supervision not only to make sure she doesn’t commit suicide but also to make sure she doesn’t escape.
He added that prison officials could keep her apart from other prisoners, on a wing with others who have committed offences against children.
During her trial, Letby was locked up at HMP New Hall alongside Rose West, who murdered nine girls in the 70s and 80s. She also spent time behind bars with Joanna Dennehy, who stabbed three men to death in 2013, at HMP Low Newton.
Letby could face a whole-life sentence which would make her the fourth British woman in history to be jailed with no chance of parole.
