Love Island contestant Gemma Owen has made it clear that she doesn’t want to be known just as famous footballer Michael Owen’s daughter as she prepares to join the show. The 19 year old was announced this week as one of 11 new faces that will be joining the ITV dating series when it returns this month.
Fashion designer Gemma has established a successful career already as a young woman – having launched her own bikini brand this year – and wants to be regarded in her own right for her own achievements separately from her dad by fans tuning into Love Island. Speaking on being linked to her sportsman dad, Gemma said in a video shared on the series’ Instagram page: “You want to have your own goals, you don’t wanna be known just as the daughter of someone.” Get exclusive celebrity stories and fabulous photoshoots straight to your inbox with OK!'s daily newsletter .

“Once they get to know me, they realise that I’m quite nice, but it definitely takes time to see that I think. I like a sort of alpha male but I like to be the alpha female so it doesn’t really work together.” Thinking ahead about her time on Love Island, Gemma finished by making a cheeky football reference as she said: “It would be nice if I did score in the villa.

We're a week into the latest series Love Island and one contestant is arguably the most discussed Islander in the famous villa this year. Dressage rider Gemma Owen, the daughter of former Liverpool, Manchester United and England striker Michael Owen, had viewers talking just a couple of days in after she coupled-up with Italian hunk Davide Sanclimenti who lives in Manchester.
Love Island producers have dropped another Bombshell on the villa in the alluring form of angel-eyed, rugby-playing, 23-year-old Jacques O'Neil. But don't be fooled by this dreamboat's enticing eyes and dangerously deep dimples, he enters the villa with BAGGAGE; a small carry on we've come to know as 19-year-old Gemma Owen, daughter of England football legend, Michael Owen.Yep, unsurprisingly, these painfully attractive human beings managed to find each other and make it work over lockdown – well, until it didn't. Jokes aside, this does mean that the reacquainted pair have been brought back together in one of the least socially-distant environments on the planet - Love Island. It sounds like Gemma is Jacques most recent relationship, too.
Love Island fans are almost a week into the new series and there has already been a recoupling and not one but FOUR bombshells, starting with Davide Sanclimenti and more recently the arrival of Gemma Owen's ex Jacques O'Neill.
Susanna Reid had a little bit of Love Island shade to share this morning as she returned to Good Morning Britain. The presenter was back hosting the show on Monday (June 13) alongside Richard Madeley.
Love Island 's Gemma Owen finally spoke about her famous father Michael Owen on Thursday's episode without mentioning his name. The Islander, 19, decided to turn her attention to Luca Bish during the latest instalment as the duo enjoyed a flirty conversation on the rooftop.
The eighth series of Love Island has already thrown up plenty of laughs, memes and drama, and of course some celebrity lookalikes. Luca Bish has caught the eyes of many of the girls in the villa, while fans at home have pointed out that he looks like a famous celeb – Westlife's Kian Egan, 42.

Only recently, villa bombshell Davide Sanclimenti picked Gemma, 19, in a dramatic recoupling after she had originally been paired with Liam Llewellyn after a vote by the public.
