Los Angeles Film Critics Awards 2021: The Full Winners List (Updating Live)

After a week of rising Covid cases in Los Angeles, the county’s daily count of new infections hit a high not seen in nearly a year. On Christmas Eve the region reported 9,988 new cases. The last time it saw a daily new cases count that high was mid-January 2021.

The New York Film Critics Circle anointed “Drive My Car” as the Best Film of 2021 and now the West Coast critics have had their say. After almost six hours of overall deliberations, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association also selected “Drive My Car” as their Best Film of the year with “The Power of the Dog” as runner-up.

The Los Angeles Film Critics Association is voting Saturday on the best films and performances of 2021. The group, made up of L.A. area print and digital journalists, is deliberating winners and runners-up throughout the morning in 14 categories including Best Picture.

Local cases of the Omicron variant of Covid officially doubled today, as Los Angeles County announced eight additional infections of the virus mutation, while Pasadena health officials verified that city’s first case.

The Los Angeles Police Department today announced six arrests in connection with four Los Angeles area flash-mob style robberies. Those arrested included two adults and four juveniles, according to a LAPD statement.

Exactly two weeks after the Thanksgiving holiday gatherings of family and friends, Los Angeles County is seeing a resulting increase in Covid-19 cases, according to Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer. She also called the trend a possible start of yet another winter surge of infections.
