Lorraine Kelly opened up on her last hospital visit with friend and colleague Deborah James, who sadly announced she's been moved to at-home hospice care with bowel cancer this week. The 62 year old Scottish presenter began by saying the daytime TV team are "sending all their love" to a "very brave person", who has been open with her cancer journey all along the way. BBC presenter Deborah, 40, is now focusing on raising money for bowel cancer research and care on her Bowel Babe JustGiving page, which has already reached over £1m and continues to go up.
But Lorraine, who has worked with Deborah for many years, admitted she was struggling to wrap her head around the progression in her friend's illness, having bounced back so many times before. Speaking to Dr Hilary, she said: "The only thing is Hilary, is she always bounced back, you know, and I just expected her to." She went on to recall a recent hospital visit with her friend, praising her for her ability to remain positive, adding: "I went to see her in the hospital and although she was very thin, she was Deborah.
"She was full of life, she was funny, she was making everybody laugh," the TV host recalled with a grin. "She was her usual self. "I thought this is just another wee hiccup along the line." Dr Hilary explained that despite the shock of needing hospice care, the author and fundraiser has gotten to her position "against all the odds", and tried so many different treatments to try and change the course of her journey.
