Carol McGiffin has raised eyebrows after she appeared to make a thinly-veiled dig at fellow ITV presenter Lorraine Kelly on Twitter last week. In a now deleted tweet, Loose Women star Carol, 61, branded a string of media personalities, including Lorraine, 62, as “revolting human beings”. Carol was responding to a tweet which featured other TV stars such as Piers Morgan, Karren Brady and Dr Hilary Jones with the caption: “Profiting from other people’s misfortune.
Msm [mainstream media] mercenaries.” She wrote alongside her retweet: “I’d go further than that. They are revolting human beings and that’s being generous.” While Carol didn’t elaborate on what she was referring to, a source has told us that publicly hitting out at other ITV stars has caused conflict behind the scenes. “Carol is very outspoken and believes in freedom of speech, but it has ruffled a few feathers at ITV,” our source said. OK! approached Carol's representatives for comment.
It’s not the first time Carol has taken a swipe at Lorraine. In November 2019, the pair had an awkward encounter when Lorraine, who fronts her own self-titled breakfast show, appeared on the Loose Women panel to promote her new book. Carol asked her: “Do you like talking about yourself, because your book is all about you?” before Lorraine attempted to smooth things over by saying it’s the sort of book she hoped fans would enjoy and find helpful.
Carol has also hit out at other television stars. In August last year, she slammed Piers, 56, as a “hypocritical monster” who she loathed. He later responded, saying: I don’t have feuds with irrelevant has-beens.” And in 2017, Carol sparked a shock spat with Gemma Collins when she branded her an “egomaniac horror who believes her own hype”
