ProSiebenSat.1 Media has posted full-year earnings down €100M ($109), but its recent recovery looks set to continue with fourth quarter income up “significantly.”

Germany’s ProSiebenSat.1 has seen its financial picture stabilizing as the local TV advertising market began to show signs of recovery.

Quarterly results published on Tuesday reveal that group revenues are relatively stable with a 3% decline in the third quarter of 2023 to €888 million ($950 million) compared to €911 million ($974 million) in the previous year. The numbers are a marginal improvement from the second quarter results where the group’s revenues declined from €1.04 billion ($1.14 billion) in 2022 to €868 million ($950 million) this year.

Soon after announcing plans to cut 400 roles, European giant ProSiebenSat.1 Media has seen profits plunge 49% and revenues fall.

John Hopewell Chief International Correspondent In a broad-based deal, Netflix and Germany’s Constantin Film, one of Europe’s biggest production-distribution companies behind the “Resident Evil” film franchise and TV series “Shadowhunters,” have struck an exclusive long-term partnership.  The powerful alliance sees Netflix acquiring pay distribution rights pay to Constantin Film’s theatrical productions in the German-speaking region. These include national and international original and co-produced films, as well as films acquired for cinema or straight-to-video (STV) release. German and international theatrical productions.  Titles will be made available to Netflix subscribers on an SVOD basis 10-12 months after their theatrical release. In return, Netflix will contribute significantly to the financing of these productions, Constantin Film announced this week. The new agreement grants Netflix licensed access to Constantin Film’s existing film and series catalog, it added. 

German media group ProSiebenSat.1 is to double down on entertainment investments and is eyeing acquisitions, as it puts streaming service Joyn at the center of its business.

German broadcasting powerhouse ProSiebenSat.1 Media has posted third quarter group revenues of €921M ($955.7M), a drop of 13%. Profits also fell from EUR162M in the same three months last year to €118M, and adjusted net income was €43M.

Former ProSiebenSat.1 executive Ramy Nasser has landed at online streaming aggregator ScreenHits TV. As the company's new vp of corporate development for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), Nasser will oversee the European rollout of the online streaming aggregator.
