Viva Mexico, cabrones!” With that battle cry, Academy Award-winner Guillermo del Toro announced Mexico as the Country of Honor at this year’s Annecy, France’s preeminent animation film festival.  According to organizer Pixelatl, an association dedicated to the creation and promotion of Mexico’s multimedia content, more than 250 Mexican animators and producers will descend on Annecy with nine programs scheduled. “The Book of Life” director Jorge R. Gutiérrez, whose Netflix series “Maya and the Three” won four Emmys and an Annie, created the poster and title cards of the festival and will also be hosting a Master Class and screening of “The Book of Life.”

Variety could easily have chosen another 20 more.      Celebrated as the executive producer and creator of Crunchyroll’s first original series “Onyx Equinox,” the tale of a young Meso-American slave who becomes the last hope of saving humanity from invading gods of the underworld. On TV “I never saw Meso-American Indigenous Mexico without Spanish influence, and I wanted to connect with my roots,” says Alexander. The series is anime influenced, not just in its aesthetics – the painterly fields of Meso-America and the frenzied gory combat –  but also in its being serialization, pacing and broad audience target, including adults, she argues. Beacon Media and Pirexia Films Pact for Spanish-Language Adaptations of Deepak Chopra Books

William Earl Deepak Chopra’s Beacon Media has pacted with Mexico City-based Pirexia Films to develop Spanish-language content derived from Chopra’s vast IP library. The partners plan to develop a range of Spanish-language properties, but the initial focus will be on Chopra books, starting with “The 13th Disciple,” “The Third Jesus” and “Jesus: A Story of Enlightenment.” The intent is to develop scripted, unscripted and documentary projects. Filming is expected to begin later this year in Mexico and Spain. Pirexia was co-founded in 2015 by filmmaker José Manuel Cravioto, known for his work on the Univision/Netflix drama “El Chapo.”

Taylor Swift Adds Third Eras Tour Date in Argentina Following Monumental Demand

Thania Garcia Argentina showed up and showed out in demand for Taylor Swift tickets after the pop star announced the first round of international “Eras Tour” dates late last week. Argentine Swifites have been patiently waiting for her first appearance in the country but received two dates as opposed to three like Mexico and Brazil. However, today the addition of a third show was revealed, meaning Swift will finally make her live debut in Argentina at the River Plate stadium in Buenos Aires on Nov. 9, 10 and 11. General on sale for all three dates kicked off earlier today at 10 a.m. local time and the original pre-sale for the first two dates — made exclusively available for Argentina-based bank Banco Patagonia customers — sold out in record time. A monumental two million people waited in line for their opportunity to snag a ticket, according to a report by the Argentine newspaper Ambito citing the tour’s production company DF Entertainment.
