In a four-star review, NME wrote: “Rose Glass, who co-wrote the film with Weronika Tofilska, has delivered a brilliant noir packed with those great pulp ingredients: sex, drugs and violence.”As reported by Variety, some attendees described how “homophobic heckles and jeers” during the films’s sex scenes, and a scene portraying sexual coercion reportedly “drew applause.”One attendee, Elina Fischer, told Variety: “Things spun wildly out of hand.” Describing their experience as “traumatic and horrible,” they added: “We were afraid for our lives, because the kinds of people who say such things during a film screening are the kinds of people who assault us.

The Belgian distribution company behind the Kristen Stewart thriller Love Lies Bleeding has denounced what it described as “homophobic, discriminatory” disruptions during a weekend screening of the pic at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. 

Ben Croll Chaos reigned at the Brussels premiere of “Love Lies Bleeding” on Saturday, after a barrage of homophobic and misogynistic comments during the screening led to a mass walkout followed by retaliatory protests and a police response. More than 60 queer women stormed out of the regional premiere once the screening turned toxic, while screening organizers claim at least three instances of physical violence.

The Cannes Film Festival is around the corner next month, so all the satellite sidebar festivals that orbit it are preparing their line-ups. The latest is Cannes Critic Week, organized by France’s Film Critics Union, which will run May 15-23.
