Polling stations all across the country have opened their doors today so Brits can have their say on who they want to represent them in their local council.
Prior to the beginning of today's local elections, you would have been sent a poll card. This card has all the information you need on how to vote as well as the location of your nearest location polling station.
If you have not yet read through your poll card make sure you do before heading out today as your vote may not count. This is because the poll card will tell you which poll station you will be voting at.
The polling station mentioned on the car is the ONLY place you will be allowed to hand in your ballot. If you go to a different polling station you may be turned away at the doors and risk missing the chance to vote this year.
While the poll card is extremely important in terms of vital information on your local polling station, you do not in fact need it to vote. As long as you go to your designated polling station and tell the staff your full name and address you will be eligible to vote.
You also do not need to take ID with you in order to vote (unless you live in Northern Ireland), as long as you are able to tell them all the necessary information you will be in the clear. Therefore, if you have lost both your ID and poll card you can still vote.
If you have not received a poll card but feel that you should have make sure to contact your local Electoral Registration Office ASAP or you may not be able to vote this year.
