Feeling good as hell! Lizzo broke down in tears accepting the award for Best Competition Program for her show Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards in L.A.
“The trophy is nice but my emotion is for these people who are on this stage with me, the stories that they shared,” the 34-year-old “About Damn Time” singer said during the Monday, September 12, awards show. “They’re not that unique, they just don’t get the platform. … Let’s just tell more stories.”
The Michigan native also spoke about what diverse representation in film and television means to her personally.
“When I was a little girl, all I wanted to see was me in the media. Someone fat like me, Black like me, beautiful like me,” she said to cheers from the audience at the Microsoft Theater. “If I could go back and tell little Lizzo something, I’d be like, ‘You gonna see that person but, bitch, it’s gonna have to be you.’”
Lizzo concluded her speech by asking the crowd to “make some noise for my big girls.” Several contestants from the Amazon Prime series — which follows 13 women competing to be dancers for the “Juice” singer — were seated in the audience.
In an August conversation with Deadline, the “Truth Hurts” songstress was asked if she’d preemptively planned her Emmys acceptance speech.
“I think I’m more excited about what I’m going to wear. Like, it’s just a big deal to be there. This is going to be my first Emmys, my first Emmys carpet. I want to feel like the belle of the ball,” she replied at the time. “So, I think I’m more excited about planning my look than a speech. I think I’m just going to drink champagne.”

Michaela Zee editor Dua Lipa, Lizzo and Jack Harlow are among the top artists to headline the 2022 iHeart Radio Jingle Ball Tour taking place in 11 cities this coming holiday season. Roughly 10 performers will be featured on each of the shows. Other performers rotating through the bill at the concerts this year include Sam Smith, the Kid Laroi, Demi Lovato, Lewis Capaldi, Pitbull, Charlie Puth, Backstreet Boys, Black Eyed Peas, Nicky Youre, Anita, Khalid, Tate McRae and more. The tour will stop in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Tampa and Miami/Ft. Lauderdale.

He was 80. Throughout Wiard’s decades-long career, he won five primetime Emmys for editing. Wiard won for his work in editing the final episode of “The Carol Burnett Show” at CBS in 1978, the four-episode WGBH series “The Scarlet Letter” in 1979 and the television special “American Bandstand’s 30th Anniversary Special” in 1982. Two episodes of “Murphy Brown” — “Respect” and “On Another Plane” — also won Wiard primetime Emmys. He was nominated a total of 11 times.
