Brian Steinberg Senior TV Editor Lisa Ling has, over the course of her career, traveled to far-off places including Costa Rica and North Korean. Her next stop: CBS News. Ling, who recently cut ties with CNN after the Warner Bros. Discovery-based cable-news outlet canceled her documentary program, “This Is Life,” will join CBS News as a contributor, says co-president Neeraj Khemlani. She is expected to debut on CBS News later this summer, and will be based in Los Angeles. “If you look at her work over the years, she is really excellent at embedding with communities,” says the executive, in an interview. “You can only do that if you are afforded time and resources that fits with the kind of storytelling that we do.”
Ling is expected to contribute reports to “CBS Mornings,” the flagship A.M. program of the CBS broadcast network. During Khemlani’s tenure, the program has focused more intently on longer-form features and stories, many of which are seen in the second hour on weekdays and throughout the show’s Sunday edition. Ling’s work is expected to turn up during those times, says Khemlani. “I can’t think of a better home for my style of reporting than CBS News given its tradition of exceptional news gathering and thoughtful storytelling,” says Ling, in a prepared statement. “I’m honored to be working with this venerable organization to tell the stories of people behind the headlines whose voices need to be heard.” Ling marks the latest in a series of notable journalism hires at CBS News. She joins a line that includes Nate Burleson, the former NFL player; Robert Costa, previously with The Washington Post; Natalie Morales, who recently joined “48 Hours” ; and Cecelia Vega the one-time ABC News correspondent who recently

Riley Keough is set to become the sole trustee of Lisa Marie Presley's estate, according to new legal documents filed on Monday in Los Angeles. In the docs obtained by ET, Riley petitions the court to approve the settlement agreement reached between her, her grandmother, Priscilla Presley, and Michael Lockwood, the Guardian Ad Litem for her two younger siblings. The settlement terms will see Riley serve as the sole trustee of her mother's estate and the sub-trusts for her sisters, 14-year-old twins Harper and Finley Lockwood. Keough will not charge for her services as trustee, which her lawyer, Justin Gold, writes, «will save money that would have gone to Priscilla who was going to charge a trustee fee.» Her lawyer also states in the docs that Riley intends to safeguard and invest the money «in a manner consistent with the needs of the beneficiaries, and not influenced by the desire of a Trustee.» For her part, Priscilla will serve as Trustee of the sub-trust for her son — Lisa Marie's half-brother, Navarone Garibaldi — who will be granted 1/9 of the Trust.
Peter Debruge Chief Film Critic A slow-burn Rocky Mountain noir set along the corridor between Billings, Mont., and the Canadian border — a cold, lonely stretch of highway shared by salesmen and smugglers alike — “Blood for Dust” establishes a ruthless sense of sangfroid from its opening shot. On a desk in a bland business office sits a family portrait, depicting a proud Marine and his family. Without warning, a shotgun goes off, splattering the photo and the wall behind it in blood and brain matter. The camera pulls back to reveal the same man, his face half-missing, a briefcase full of cash propped open on his desk. It’s a jarring — and jarringly artificial — scene. Fortunately, it’s the only one that rings false in director Rod Blackhurst’s otherwise tense, no-nonsense thriller, a standout of the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival that merits comparison to “Breaking Bad” or “Hell or High Water,” but with snow instead of sand. Moments after that opening gun blast, “Game of Thrones” star Kit Harrington (sporting a sleazy handlebar mustache) and Scoot McNairy (as his hangdog accomplice) show up, too late to save the friend who offed himself. In taking his own life, the dead man saved theirs. The question that lingers is how long their luck may last.
