Lewis Capaldi has compared his parents to Simon Cowell after they faced backlash for being too "harsh" with him during his documentary. The West Lothian born singer appeared on the Scott Mills show on BBC Radio 2 to discuss his brand new single Wish You Were Here and his Netflix show How I'm Feeling Now.
Lewis' older sister Danielle recently hit out at critics who branded her parents Mark and Carole 'harsh' in the documentary, and insisted they only want the best for their talented son. During the doc, viewers are treated to an intimate and personal insight into Lewis' life while he focusses on creating his second album.
In one scene, the Someone You Loved singer can be seen playing some new material to Mark and Carole which was met with a lacklustre reaction.
Speaking about the documentary, Lewis, 26, told Scott: "I know 100 per cent when I watched the first draft of it I thought do I die at the end of this because its so depressing in places," as the broadcaster chimed in: "At least your songs are happy."
Lewis continues: "Yes at least my songs are happy, it’s weird. I think you really see where the songs come from and that’s something that hasn’t been done before.
"I never expected it to be as vulnerable, not to use the buzz words all celebs use plugging a documentary flogging something, but it’s quite intimate."
"The doc features never seen before footage of you working on your second album," Scott says. "One bit where you play a new song to your mum and dad in the kitchen and your mum goes nah, it’s not one of your best."
Making the comparison to the famously harsh TV talent judge, Lewis jokes: "My mom and dad have all of a sudden become these muso’s. My mum is a nurse and my dad is a fishmonger and now all of a sudden
