Lewis Capaldi has revealed he can't find any builders to renovate a £1.6million farmhouse which he bought on the advice of Ed Sheeran. The star snapped up the property three years ago after friend Sheeran scoured the internet to look for a home for him.
However, after moving into the rural pad on the outskirts of Glasgow, he discovered it smelled of cigarette smoke and dog and has described it as a "hell hole". The Someone You Loved singer also hated the decor and quickly decided to move to a flat in Glasgow.
Capaldi, 26, originally from Whitburn, West Lothian, said the house is now a "shell" and he is struggling to convince any workmen to take on the project. He said he will need his upcoming second album to sell well so he can pay for the renovations.
Speaking on US radio, he said: "Let's put it this way, if this album doesn't go well I have a real issue on my hands. That house is now a shell. I have ripped it all out and right now it's squalor.
"We keep on finding builders and they keep on being like 'Nah, not for us'. People are turning me down. I'm offering to pay the money and they're like 'No, not for us, that's not the one'. So Ed has still burdened my life to an incredible degree."
Capaldi also joked he had been trying to get in touch with Sheeran after he said in an interview he would buy the house from him. He added: "I saw Ed saying he is going to buy it off me. I've been chasing that man on email and nothing. I haven't seen him since."
Last year, Capaldi was given permission to build an extension to the property which will include a swimming pool, changing rooms, a spa and sauna. The star had already been given the green light to convert old stables into an exercise room and a gym.
His renovation plans also include

A.D. Amorosi The only thing America loves more than watching work imported from Great Britain is when that same British work goes wildly off the rails. What is “The Great British Bake Off” without toppling cakes, or romantic Ed Sheeran without goofy relationship misadventures, or “Dr. Who” without a confoundedly sputtering David Tennant? Targeting the dippier side of American Anglophilia are Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields — the co-founders and playwrights of Great Britain’s Mischief Theatre Company — and their imaginary Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society (Cornley U for the Yanks). Theirs is a team manically adept at creating adroitly bumbling, screwball comic twists on Anglo theatrical tropes. First they lampooned the Agatha Christie whodunnit with “The Play That Goes Wrong,” which was mounted in London in 2012 and has played Broadway and beyond.
