Lauryn Hill has postponed all but one of her remaining 2023 tour dates due to what she describes as a battle with “serious vocal strain” and fears over the side effects of prolonged use of the medicinal steroid Prednisone.
In an Instagram post today, Hill wrote, “As many of you may know, I’ve been battling serious vocal strain for the past month. I made it through each show by taking prescribed prednisone, but this can be detrimental to the body when taken in large amounts over long periods of time. In order to prevent any long term negative affect on my voice and my body, I need to take time off to allow for real vocal recovery so that I can discontinue the medication completely.”
Hill said that, with the exception of her Philadelphia concert on Nov. 25, all of the remaining 2023 tour dates will be postponed until next year.
Hill is touring with the reunited Fugees to mark the 25th anniversary of her breakthrough album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. The postponed dates were to have included stops in Atlanta, Nashville, Charlotte NC, Huntsville Al, Tampa, Miami and Boston. The tour has already played Brooklyn, Chicago and Los Angeles.
“The shows that were cancelled this year will be rescheduled for early 2024 AND because of the overwhelming response, we’ll be adding new cities to the tour, including overseas,” Hill wrote. “We’re working on the new calendar now, and announcing soon.”
